As professional organizers, our brains are trained to approach items in groups/categories. So instead of just focusing on sheets or tablecloths separately, we are going to focus on all of your linens with the goal of a seasonal refresh. Consider all the places you might be storing and using linens in your home on a daily basis: bathrooms, dining area, kitchen, living room, and bedrooms. Let’s tackle them one category at a time.
TOWELS
Primary and guest bathrooms could use a little festive flair with a fun hand towel. You don’t have to buy an entire seasonal set of bath towels for every holiday, but a little touch goes a long way! Incorporate a seasonal candle or oil diffuser in a bathroom for more of a sensory experience.
BLANKETS + BEDDING
Swap your light cotton throws for a chunkier cozy blanket on the couch. For the folks who LOVE flannel sheets, now is the time to remake the beds. If you typically make your beds with a quilt, you could add a blanket layer under it for added warmth or a fluffy down comforter folded at the foot of the bed is a nice layer as well.
TABLE TEXTILES
Napkins, runners, placemats, and table cloths. Pro tip: toss these in the dryer on low to freshen them up before using them this year. Be sure nothing is stained or torn and that you have the amount of individual napkins/placemats needed for the meals you will be hosting. For a subtle way to enhance your every day table linens with a seasonal touch, utilize fresh greenery, berries, or magnolia leaves from outside.
KITCHEN LINENS
Pull out your beloved seasonal tea towels and pack away the ones you use throughout the year in the bin/box you stored the holiday ones. If you have collected too many of these over the years, challenge yourself to donate at least a few to streamline your collection so you can actually use what you have & love!
